Prince Harry has a busy schedule while he’s in the U.K. In addition to his public engagements, Harry is likely to be pulled into a number of meetings with his family. Perhaps one of the most sensitive is his alleged meeting with his older brother, Prince William.
William and Harry have reportedly been in a feud for months, but according to a source that spoke with In Touch, William is also aware that now is the time to resolve his problems with Harry.
“He knows it’s a now or never situation and doesn’t want to lose his brother for good,” the source said. “It will take time for them to rebuild their relationship but at least they’re on the right path.”
The exact reasons for the alleged feud are still unclear, but many believe that Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle played a role. The suggestion is that Harry feels William and the rest of the royal family didn’t do enough to protect Meghan from scrutiny from the press.
The source also indicated that the relationship has continued to deteriorate in the aftermath of Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from their duties as royals. The couple is hoping to pursue a more independent life, and split their time between North America and the U.K.
While many believe that Meghan has been the mastermind behind this plan, the source says that’s not the case. In fact, Harry is hoping to break free of his brother’s enormous stature by leaving.
“He’s over living in William’s shadow,” the source said. “The Queen stressed the importance of her family putting on a united front, and she made this very clear in her statement, but his relationship with William is still strained. The way things are going, it’s unlikely they’ll ever be close again. Like they used to be.”
After their mother Princess Diana died, Harry and William relied heavily on one another to get through the grief they both felt at the loss of their mother.
Harry’s knowledge of how his mother was treated only made him more cautious about Meghan’s harsh treatment in the British press. Harry knew that Diana was often attacked in the same forums, and wanted to make sure his wife was spared that same treatment.
Above all else, it seems that Harry is trying to put his new family first. Unfortunately, that might mean that he has to let go of some of the closeness that he once shared with his brother.
