When Disney first announced plans to give "Lizzie McGuire" the reboot treatment for their streaming service Disney+, fans of the original show were ecstatic by the news.

Not only was Hilary Duff confirmed to return, but so was its original showrunner, Terri Minsky, who had worked on a script that was centered around Lizzie as she navigates through the ups and downs of her adult life.

But after just filming two episodes, Disney wasn’t happy with the material and subsequently decided to fire Terri from his position, which had left fans to believe that the reboot would potentially get scrapped entirely.

Before Minsky’s departure from the show, it was confirmed that the Lizzie McGuire reboot would feature an openly gay character who was expected to play a prominent role in the series.

And after Terri was fired from the revival, the concept, which apparently was in collaboration with Hilary Duff’s creative ideas, had been neglected and pushed to the side.

In an official statement, Disney claimed that parting ways with Minsky were down to the creative differences that occurred while developing the reboot.

They didn’t like the vision Minsky had in mind, which became prominent during the filming process, but the company assured fans that plans for a new series will still go ahead.

“Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series. After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the series.”

Variety later reached out to Minsky for a response, who felt strongly about the direction of the show under his leadership, saying: “I am so proud of the two episodes we did. Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen.”

“It’s a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally, I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark."

He then went on to say: “It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.”

Disney has yet to find a new showrunner for the Lizzie McGuire reboot, which means the show will remain on shelves until further notice.

And keeping in mind that Duff has stayed quiet on the ongoing changes concerning the show that transformed her into a commonly recognized name, fans will be anxious to hear an update from the entertainer once a new team has been put together and the reboot is back in development.

But how do you feel about the changes Disney is making which have consequently left the entire production on hold?
