It won’t be long until Kevin Pearson, played by Justin Hartley, joins his siblings and becomes a parent, himself.
But just like the birth of an actual baby, the waiting – in this case determining who is the baby’s other parent – has been the hardest part.
Viewers learned a few weeks ago that Hartley’s character had a pregnant fiancée who was suffering from morning sickness, and wonder over the mystery woman has had fans on edge.
“We’re almost there. We’re a couple of weeks away,” Hartley said in an interview with Us Weekly. “You’ll find out!”

For now, however, it’s a mystery who that woman might be, although there are more than a few options.
It could be Kevin’s sister Kate’s best friend Madison, with whom he found comfort when he went to visit Kate (Chrissy Metz) when he returning from Pittsburgh after seeing his ex-wife, the now-engaged Sophie, who still tugs as Kevin’s heartstrings.
But let’s not forget military mom Cassidy, who was part of Kevin’s storyline earlier this season, or Lizzy, the married woman (played by Sophia Bush) that caught Kevin’s eye.
There’s also a chance that the mystery woman is Kevin’s girlfriend from last season, Randall’s wife Beth’s cousin Zoe, a photographer and filmmaker whose history with men causes Beth to warn Kevin to keep his distance. This theory is unlikely, however, as Kevin and Zoe split over Kevin’s desire to have children, which he announced to Randall at the family’s Thanksgiving celebration at the beginning of season four.
In fact, he wanted it all by his 40th birthday, just a mere nine months away.
While longtime fans would likely love to see Kevin reunite with his ex-wife Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge) – their relationship ended after Kevin moved to Los Angeles for his acting career, which including his role on “The Manny,” but eventually Kevin realized Sophie deserved better – but Madison may be the more logical choice, based on Sophie’s response in season 1 when Kevin made an attempt at reconciliation.
“We tried to squeeze a puzzle piece in because it fit once when were kids. You really want to make amends? Just leave me with the past,” she told him. “Let me remember you at 10 or 17 or 20. Just let me remember you when it was good.”
The clues are slim.
We know when the Pearson family birthday celebration at the cabin is interrupted when Rebecca (Mandy Moore) goes missing and is escorted back by the police.
During that scene, Kate asks Kevin how “she” is, and we learn that Kevin’s mystery woman – who was not part of his life a few months ago – is suffering from morning sickness.
“It’s definitely fast,” show producer Isaac Aptaker told Entertainment Weekly. “We’re nine months in the future and he already is engaged and soon to be with child. People can draw their own conclusions there, whether they want to believe that things are hunky-dory or if this was a bit of a panic and something that Kevin might wind up regretting.”
