Season 18 of The Voice kicked off with slight drama, with Nick Jonas replacing the previous coach, Gwen Stefani. Kelly Clarkson started the season off with awkward comments directed toward Jonas and his wife, Indian actress Priyanka Chopra. Clarkson's comments surround the decade age gap between the couple, Chopra being 10 years older than her husband Jonas.

But what the fans have been worried about is Blake Shelton, who made direct comments about not letting Jonas enter the show easily. Because he's "new guy", he'll go through initiation.

“I’m gonna take [Gwen leaving] out on Nick Jonas,” said Shelton in a conversation with Extra. “I mean, it’s not his fault. But I’m not happy about it and he’s gonna be sitting there, the new guy. So I’m gonna bully him a little bit, to be honest with you.”

As fans started to see the plans Shelton has in store for the young singer, both interest and anticipation began to rise. When the announcement of the identity of the new coach was released, the existing coaches all made welcome videos.

The announcement made on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show caused fellow coaches Clarkson and John Legend, came forward with somewhat welcoming messages for Jonas, but Shelton's wasn't on the same wavelength.

“Nick Jonas! How you doin’, buddy? I heard that you’re going to be a new coach on The Voice and I wanted to say congratulations I guess,” started Shelton. “I’m going to have to look through the rules because this is my TV show,” he continued, joking with Jonas.

“I’m not even sure if you’re old enough to be a coach on The Voice, but I’m certain that you’re going to get your butt kicked, buddy.” Too funny.

All bullying aside, the two seem to have a healthy relationship, and Jonas even admits to enjoying working with the country singer. In an interview with Variety, Jonas gives the deets.

“I think any time you have a new guy, you can expect to be a little bit of a target,” Jonas divulges.

“But Blake is very good at doing his Blake thing. Contrary to his public comments about bullying me as the new guy, we have a lot of fun together and found a really good dynamic early on. I think the show only works when everyone’s having a good time, and Blake really sets that tone for the rest of us.”

Jonas also went into details on his brothers during this conversation, Joe and Kevin, who'll also appear on this season of The Voice as mentors to contestants.
