What’s more annoying? A show that promises crossovers and never has them, or a show that promises crossovers and does too many of them?
Well, the answer is actually the latter of that question. A show that promises too many crossovers to the point it annoys the fans. There is such thing as too much of a good thing after all. ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ and ‘Station 19’ are guilty now of using too many crossovers. It is almost weekly now and it seems that is causing more upset than not.
What does ‘Station 19’ have to do with ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ anyway? Well, it is a spin-off for starters. However, this takes place in a fire station away from the hospital. Yes, fire stations and hospitals do interact quite a lot but the show’s premise should be able to stand alone.
The show takes Ben Warren, as the start of ‘Station 19’ and should show the life of the men and women in the station. That would be an interesting show. Take the show ‘Chicago 9-1-1’ for example. Same premise and a great show.
So why are fans so upset? Well, for starters the co-producer stated that the writing team is trying hard to make sure each episode can stand alone. So viewers don’t have to watch both shows if they don’t want to.
Which is where we come into the crossover problem. There should be no reason the shows have to depend on one another to survive. However, it seems that ‘Station 19’ is doing just that. While the writers may be trying it isn’t working to keep the shows apart.
A fan took to Reddit saying, “You would miss nothing if you didn’t watch it, they basically stayed at the firehouse the whole episode. They had that face time with Carina, but do people even care for her; she is not a series regular.”
This means that the show’s crossovers are too small and don’t really matter too much. When they tune into the show they aren’t seeing their favorite characters from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ or if they do they aren’t missing anything.
Viewers have every right to be upset. ‘Station 19’ isn’t providing that much for Grey’s at all. Where if viewers tune in to ‘Station 19’ just for their ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ characters that show thrives. It has become annoying to say the least. And fans are really not happy about it.
They are feeling forced to watch two shows when most don’t want to watch two shows. If there were going to be real promos then it would be a different story. But it seems every time it just falls flat.
