It’s Leap Day and whether or not you were born on this every-four-years date, some of your favorite spots are offering deals in honor of this special day. So, take advantage of what’s out there. Not only that, but there are some mighty interesting superstitions and traditions going on around the globe concerning today. So, if you or someone you know is officially celebrating their birthday today, why not treat them and yourself to some cash savings especially on certain meals.

Hotel Getaways


Depending on which property, Viceroy Hotels & Resorts are offering a Leap-Day themed, 29 percent discount deals at 12 of their locations. The deal is $129 resort credits; $29 room upgrades and late checkout extended to 2:29 p.m. The offer is valid throughout 2020, but rooms must be booked on February 29.

Some of the participating Viceroy Hotels include: Hotel Emblem (San Francisco), Viceroy Santa Monica, Viceroy Chicago and Hotel Zena (Washington, DC). Provenance Hotels in New Orleans, Portland and Seattle also offer travelers the opportunity to book rooms at a 29 percent discount.

Legal Sea Foods is offering a special two-pound lobster with two sides for only $29 and just what are those side selections? How about French fries, onion straws, jasmine rise and more. Pizza lovers can drive over to their nearby 7-11 stores, where they are selling whole pizzas for $2.99.

Anyone hankering for a tasty sandwich from Quiznos and planning to propose to the love of their life on leap day will have a chance to enter to win their free Quiznos catering contest for their wedding day. To satisfy that sweet tooth, Olive Garden, will give 4 free Dolcinis (small cake) to anyone born on February 29 and not to be outdone, Krispy Kreme will be sending dozens of donuts to health professionals, hospitals and parents of Leap Day babies to celebrate their Leap to National Delivery day.

You may have heard of a marriage made in heaven but what about one starting out in Hell? Today, at 2:29 p.m., Rev. Yvonne Williams will be marrying 29 couples for free in Hell, Michigan. Yes, there is such a place. According to the Detroit Free Press, there is a process. Lovebirds need to email the officiating revered their full names, address and confirmation of having secured a valid marriage license.

It may be too late now, but mark your calendar for four years from now, if the offer is still available and you’re ready to jump the broom by then.

Not So Fast Says the Greek and Ukranians

Contrary to Leap Day marriage deals in the Wolverine state of Michigan, Greek and Ukrainian folklore suggests couple marrying during a leap year, never mind leap day, are destined for a marriage truly made in hell. Taking superstition to heart, only one in five engaged couples dare to get hitched during a leap year.

There is also a superstition that those who separate or divorce during a leap year will never find happiness again. Who knows? Maybe those who do divorce feel that’s all the happiness they need.
