Jussie Smollett is for the second time fighting criminal charges in Chicago, following his indictment over staging a hate crime. He had earlier been charged with 16 counts, although the case was later dismissed for lack of evidence.

He appeared for his first time following the revival of his case on Monday in a Cook court, and he still denies the charges. Speaking to TMZ, the former Empire actor claimed that he was innocent and that the truth will be his defense.

Smollett’s lawyers argue that their client is suffering double jeopardy, but the judge on Monday decided the case should move forward. According to the special prosecutor, Kim Foxx, the police files contained sufficient evidence that will prove Jussie Smollett staged the hate crime attack and fed the police with lies.

The investigating officers incurred a cost of $130,000 on their two-week investigations, an amount that Smollett has been sued to compensate. His accomplices were allegedly two Nigerian-American brothers that Jussie had met while still on Empire.

His lawyer termed him a resilient man, and he would get through the issue. Getting to speak finally, Jussie commented how frustrating the whole thing was, but he had no option than to fight. Smollett answered a question claiming he does not even claim to be innocent. He is innocent.

Jussie Smollett argues that the truth will be his defense in the March case, and he also has a few arguments to fight the battle of course with the help of the legal representatives. It is evident he is in court for the second time over the same crime, and that is a possible defense.

He is alleged to be discussing that with his legal assistants, among other feasible paths. Jussie Smollett’s woes follow a video that the police unearthed while investigating the serious hate crime attack that the actor alleged to have suffered.
