Ever since the Lizzie McGuire reboot was abruptly halted in January, fans were not sure what to expect moving forward. Not only was production stalled, but main showrunner, Terri Minsky, was fired after just two episodes were filmed. Disney hasn't commented in length about the stall, only stating that they want the show to move in a "different direction". Hilary Duff, AKA the actress who's plays Lizzie, has kept relatively quiet about the whole situation, until Friday night when she spoke out via Instagram.

Hilary gave her first official statement about the show's stalled production on Friday evening. "Was incredibly excited to launch "Lizzie" on D+ and my passion remains! However, I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans' relationship with LIZZIE who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her," Hilary began her post. "I'd be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old's journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating," she continues, thus confirming some of the speculation about why the show has been halted.

Prior to this statement, Hilary had only acknowledged the situation once via Instagram story. This past week, Disney announced that another Disney+ show, Love, Victor, would be moving to Hulu because it wasn't "family-friendly" enough. Hilary posted a headline of this story onto her Instagram story, circled it, and wrote "sounds familiar". Upon this shade, fans began speculating that the Lizzie McGuire reboot was a bit too mature for what Disney has in mind. With her official statement, Hilary seems to confirm this notion as well.

Of course, Hilary isn't the only one who has spoken out. Fired showrunner Terri Minsky gave some insight into the issue during an interview with Variety. "I am so proud of the two episodes we did," Terri told the publication. "Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion."

Now that Hilary has posted an official statement about the show, it's clear that she and Terri are on the same page when it comes to the reboot. "It's important to me that just as her [Lizzie's] experiences as a preteen / teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable," Hilary continued in her Instagram post. "It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again." We'll have to wait and see how Disney feels about this proposition!
