With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finishing up their last remaining responsibilities in the United Kingdom after making the decision to relinquish their roles as senior members, sources close to the couple have shared some interesting comments about how the Duke of Sussex thinks they were treated by members of the royal family.
According to reports, Prince Harry’s decision to take his family to North America was made all the more easier because of the lack of support that the royal family had for Meghan and their inability to protect her. To the duke, he believes they could have done much more for him and his wife, at least for how Meghan was received in the public eye.
On Wednesday, a source close to the couple spoke with InTouch Weekly in the wake of the ‘Meghxit’ coming to completion, sharing that the royal family’s treatment of both Prince Harry and Meghan were deciding factors in their role abandonments and subsequent move to Canada.
“Harry’s accused the royals of treating him and Meghan differently [than] the rest of the family and says that they didn’t welcome her into the family with open arms or protect her enough,” the source revealed to the outlet. The Prince also made comparisons, whether fair or not, to his cousins, Princess Eugenie and Prince Beatrice, and their involvement in the private sector.

“Harry thinks it’s unfair that there’s one rule for him and Meghan and another for his cousins. The way he sees it, [Princesses] Eugenie and Beatrice are allowed to have lives outside of the family and are still royals so why can’t he and Meghan?” the source continued.
These comments reflect something odd, yet fundamental to royal protocol, based on the responsibilities and affiliation with the family. Both Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice have very minimal roles within the royal family, as both have made a career working in the private sector, despite being the daughters of Prince Andrew.
If you’ll recall, Prince Harry is the son of Prince Charles, Prince Andrew‘s brother. This makes Prince Harry and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie cousins, on the same level playing field, at least as far as familial relations go. Even with Beatrice and Eugenie not having much of an active role within the family, both have maintained their HRH titles.
The same could not be said for Prince Harry, who like his two cousins, has decided to pursue endeavors within the commercial and private sectors. It seems that this snubbing by the queen and royal family against him and Meghan have resulted in some bad blood. Why them and not other people of similar standing within the family?

Furthermore, the source in speaking with InTouch Weekly also shared that the revocation of their word ‘royal’ in their Sussex Royal brand was hurtful to the couple, as Prince Harry would be no less royal, no matter where he moved or lived. “Being banned from using ‘royal’ has really upset Harry and Meghan. Not just because they spent a fortune on branding. It’s the principle,” the source shared.
Prince Harry and Meghan are currently back in the United Kingdom, fulfilling their final requirements as senior members of the royal family. According to the Buckingham Palace announcement, ‘Megxit’ is set to be completed on March 31.
