Spotify's business model can seem a bit confusing to some people. Especially when you are one of those people who are on a family plan and you don't pay for the free music, but you don't have to deal with ads. Spotify like Netflix brings in money from the subcriptions that people pay to be able to listen to free music.

Then, they don't really care how much music you listen to? If you are a paying customer maybe not so much. They also have a free service that runs ads. That is where they need people listening to more music. More streams means more ad time. That is why they have these sort of campaigns.

The nominees and winners are going to be chosen based on the number of streams on the platform. Why didn't they hold an American version of the awards?
