In 2013 Kemp Powers put on his debut 'One Night in Miami', which is a fictional account of a real life moment that happened between Muhammad Ali, R&B Singer-Songwriter, Sam Cooke, the NFL star, Jim Brown and thee Malcolm X.

On February 25, 1964 Cassius Clay found himself in a hotel room with his 3 closest friends celebrating his world boxing championship, with the hotel guarded by the Nation of Islam.

In that hotel room they were just four human men like ALL other men, but to some in the external world they were idols.

Regina King has more than a few television directing credits to her name by now. She has directed episodes of 'This is Us', Issa Rae's 'Insecure' on HBO, Mara Brock Akil's 'Being Mary Jane', 'Shameless' and more.

'One Night in Miami' will be her first time feature film and so far according to her cast things seem to be going pretty well.

“She’s fantastic,” Aldis Hodge, who plays Brown in the film, told Variety about King. "People are going to be really impressed," he continued.

”’One Night in Miami’ is a love letter to black manhood that powerfully explores themes of race, identity and friendship,” says Director Regina King.

British Actor, Kingsley Ben-Adir will play the role of Malcom X. The Canadian Actor, Eli Goree will take on the part of boxing champion Muhammad Ali and Leslie Odom Jr. as Sam Cooke.

With the exception of Hodge, all of the Actors are somewhat new rising stars on the scene. The cast was announced earlier this year in January.

Principal photography for the film also began January 2020. Last July 2019 Regina King was attached to the adaptation.

Ali's family says the production has their blessing in going forth with the film.

It seems that King's vision is to be trusted as seen in her previous television work. Most Actors are familiar with techniques to get the performances out of other actors. It would only make sense that they would be great Directors as King has proven so far to be.

There have not been any other recent updates on how the film is going outside of the comments from Hodge during the premiere for his current horror film 'Invisible Man'.

"@ReginaKing is directing "One Night In Miami"!!! Here just take my rent money. #onenightinmiami fresh off an amazingly breathe taking run by @Excalibah and now this," one Twitter user said.

The people are certainly looking forward to seeing what King does with a historical night that we have not seen on screen.
