The Highwomen are made up of members Maren Morris, Natalie Hemby, Amanda Shires, and Brandi Carlile. They aim to be an example for up and coming female artists in country.

Paving the Way

Maren Morris opened up to Billboard about the group saying, They have families. We’ve said [that] none of us really needed this group, which is, I think, why it’s so special: none of us need the money or the fame. We all have our own things going on, so this was really four people that really believed in the songs that we were turning in for it, and the message behind it." The Highwomen released their first album, Redesigning Women, in September of 2019.

Inspiring Young Women

The group of women are all successful in their own right. They've each made their mark in not only country, but the music industry as a whole. In recent years, women have seriously lacked representation in country. The genre is heavily male dominated at the moment, but it wasn't always that way. In an interview with popculture.com, Amanda Shires explained, "We recognized that we're in a time right now where our daughters don't have the same country music heroes that we had." She continued on, "Two women out of the Top 20 is not enough."

This nomination shows the industry also embracing what the women are trying to do. The 2020 ACM Awards will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 5, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, with Keith Urban hosting the ceremony.

There's been no official word if The Highwomen are working on new music, but it sure doesn't look like they'll be slowing down anytime soon. While each artist has their own busy schedule with their respective solo careers, the women seem to always be able to make time for each other. They embody the meaning of friendship and female empowerment, and we can't wait to see what they do next.
