The Preparations Constance Wu Made to Ensure Sure She Was Ready for Hit Movie 'Hustlers'

Numerous actors and actresses are known for shrugging on the lives of their characters to ensure that they better understand the roles they will be playing.

Take Joaquin Phoenix, for example, who played the Joker in the 2019 thriller Joker. Phoenix's body changed drastically as he needed to prepare for the extreme weight loss of his character which he said had an extreme impact on his mental health.

Another well-known actor who underwent intense transformations was Timothée Chalamet when he played Nic Sheff in the 2018 film, Beautiful Boy.

Many famed celebrities like to have a deep understanding of the characters they are expected to play so that their performances are able to connect with audiences on a deeper level and come off as being realistic.

Constance Wu, who acted in the 2019 film Hustlers is one of those many celebrities. Only, her preparations for the movie go just a bit deeper.

Having featured an impressive list of many famed actors such as Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, and more, Hustlers received plenty of attention.

In a recent interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, talkshow host Kelly Clarkson sat down with Hustlers star, Constance Wu, to speak about her role in the movie.

Right off the bat, Wu reveals to audiences, "I did work at a strip club, to get ready for hustlers," following it up with, "I went undercover."

Wu proceeded to disclose to audiences the lengths she went to so that she could prepare for her role in the movie, proving just how determined she is as an actor.

As the interview progressed, Wu told Clarkson, "I gave lap dances to strangers," to which Clarkson insisted could not be true. The banter between the two celebs was met with amused laughter in the audience as Wu continued to tell her story of preparations.

"I made six-hundred bucks," Wu finally revealed to the audience. She explained the process as having needed to apply fake tattoos and alter her hair to which Clarkson portrayed her admiration for Wu's obvious commitment to her craft.

In Hustlers, Wu acts as a single mother who ends up forming a friendship with Jennifer Lopez's character before the two indulge in a plan to swindle affluent business owners of their money.'

Being an actor, it only made sense for Wu to "go undercover," as she puts it, in order to better connect with her role and therefore give audiences a realistic performance.

And, it goes without saying that due to Wu's obviously amazing performance, her "undercover mission," certainly paid off.
