It has been 11 years since Robert Pattinson made all of our hearts beat faster as sexy vampire Edward Cullen. This role turned out to not be as career defining as one may imagine, and he has gone on to prove that he is so much more than just a teen heartthrob and that he truly is a widely talented, universal actor. But how does he really feel about his time spent as the iconic vampire we all wanted to spend our eternities with?

He Hated it For Awhile

Though Twilight clearly did not prevent Pattinson from pursuing other roles, for awhile he thought that he would be stuck in his Twilight persona forever. In 2011, he told Vanity Fair:

"Being in such a specific pigeonhole right now, it’s very strange. Having a persona people recognize, it’s the thing that probably gets you paid the most—but it’s also the thing that virtually every actor in the world doesn’t want. Cause, like, no one would believe me if I wanted to play something ultra-realistic, like, a gangster or something."

Though he was the star of the film, Pattinson felt that the storyline was, well, a little off. He told Variety:

"It’s a weird story, Twilight. It’s not just like-- it’s strange how people responded a lot to it. I guess the books are very romantic, but at the same time, it’s not like ‘The Notebook’ romantic. ‘The Notebook’ is very sweet and heartbreaking, but Twilight is about this guy, and he finds the one girl he wants to be with, and he also wants to eat her. I mean, not eat her, but drink her blood or whatever. It’s not that other people are telling them they can’t be together, it’s his own body telling him that."

The Paparazzi Terrorized Him

When the 'Twilight' hype was the most intense it has ever been, Pattinson shares that the paparazzi had made his life miserable due to his immense popularity at the time. This caused him to look back on his 'Twilight' memories with even more disdain, pairing with his pre-existing hesitance to remember the experience fondly. He reflects on the experience, telling British GQ:

"“I have so many terror memories of the paparazzi. And I still don full-on protective armour, hood up, hat down.”

He Doesn't Hate It Anymore

Twihards, rejoice! Robert Pattinson has ended his hateful relationship with 'Twilight'. USA Today reports that he lovingly shared his sentiments, saying:

"It's lovely now that the mania is not so intense. People come up (to me) and just have very fond memories of it. It's a really sweet thing. I think the only scary part was right in the thick of it all, when it was very, very intense. Now the intensity has died down and it's just very warm memories."
