Over the past couple weeks, Ben Affleck has been promoting his upcoming film, The Way Back. Between a candid interview with The New York Times and a heart-to-heart with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, Ben has been bearing all and getting especially candid about his journey to sobriety and his divorce from Jennifer Garner. While Ben has had nothing but positive things to say about his ex, many have been praising the star for getting his life on track. However, there’s on person who apparently isn’t too keen on Ben’s comments — Jennifer’s current boyfriend, John Miller!
Apparently, Jen’s businessman boyfriend has been feeling “uncomfortable” about Ben’s recent interviews. A source recently told Us Weekly: “John is empathetic to Ben’s struggles with sobriety, but he worries about how Jennifer has once again become the focus. … The spotlight on Jennifer is intense and Ben needs to consider her feelings before speaking so publicly.” John and Jennifer have quietly been dating for two years now, and John has no issue with Jen and Ben still being close for the sake of co-parenting their three children.
Nevertheless, John has some insecurities when it comes to Ben’s recent comments. “John believes Ben would remarry Jennifer if she wanted to get back together. John wants to marry Jennifer but knows she isn’t ready yet,” the source continued, via Perez Hilton. While there has been no sign that Ben and Jen may get back together, Ben’s candidness has obviously struck a chord with John. Also, John’s comments insinuate that Jen would like to stay somewhat removed from the public eye, but because of Ben’s recent interviews, the spotlight has been thrust upon her once more.
Notably, Jennifer herself has not said anything directly about Ben’s recent interviews. Sources have stated that Jen “appreciates” what Ben has had to say, but that they were firmly not getting back together. Of course, Ben did have quite a bit to say. In his New York Times interview, Ben called his divorce from Jennifer his “biggest regret”. He also acknowledged that his drinking was ultimately what caused some of the biggest issues in his marriage, but he’s committed to sobriety for his sake and the sake of his kids. It’s easy to see why Jen’s current boyfriend may be nervous about such comments!
Regardless of what the future holds, both Ben and Jennifer are certainly focused on their children. Ben has also recently said that he is sad to be a “split family”: “I never thought that I was gonna get divorced. I didn’t want to get divorced. I didn’t want to be a divorced person. I really didn’t want to be a split family with my children,” he explained during his Good Morning America interview. Even though they are divorced, Ben and Jen are still dedicated co-parents, and Jen has been very supportive of Ben’s journey to sobriety. Only time will tell what the future holds for these two!
