According to new reports by Rolling Stone, Lanez wasn’t able to reach a plea deal in the felony assault case and has been requested to undergo a live testimony next month.
The publication revealed that the rapper’s attorney Shawn Holley during an appearance in court on Wednesday, was asked by Deputy District Attorney Kath Ta to bring her client for a preliminary hearing on December 14.
Just last month, Holley revealed that she was in talks with Megan’s lawyers and others involved for the “Say It” crooner to strike a deal and possibly resolve the case without it going to trial.
However, amid the “meaningful discussions” the defense attorney had with the other parties, she maintained that Lanez stands by his not guilty plea. “Our position as to what did and did not happen in this matter remains unchanged,” she reiterated.
The live testimony will determine if the assault case will go to trial or not. The Canadian rapper currently has two pending felony charges are for carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
If he is found guilty of shooting Megan, he will have an added charge of inflicting great bodily injury and can serve up to 22 years in prison.
As you might know, Tory was accused of shooting the “Savage” crooner in the foot in July 2020 during an argument after the pair were leaving a party.
Megan didn’t address the situation until a month later, on an Instagram Live session where she confirmed that Lanez shot her.
Tory Lanez Got An Increased Bail
The new update in the case comes after Lanez’s bail was increased after he defied the restraining order placed against him, as covered by The Blast.
Given that the pair is yet to settle their issues, the “Jerry Sprunger” crooner was asked to stay away from Megan at all times.
However, he defied those orders when he made an appearance at DaBaby’s performance at Rolling Loud Festival, where the Texas native was also performing. As a result, the court ordered him to pay more money for bail.
Given that his presence at the concert was a surprise, he was given the option of paying more money instead of being sentenced to jail.
Following the news of Lanez being denied a plea deal, fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the matter. Some fans believe that the justice system unfairly treated the rapper, and 22 years is too much.
However, many of Megan’s fans believe he’s getting what he deserved and hope his career suffers for it.
