Ronnie and The Situation Are Super Close These Days, Here's Why

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino have had a rocky relationship for years. Sometimes the two are best friends. Other times, they're so mad at each other that they get into physical fights.

But according to Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, all the bad blood of the past is behind them. Ronnie recently said that while Mike was in jail, the two got very close, and now Mike is "like a brother" to him.

They Kept in Touch While Sorrentino Was in Jail

Mike Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months in prison for tax evasion, which he served in 2019. The cast of Jersey Shore, including Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, was super supportive in the months leading up to Mike's trial and his imprisonment.

They were also supportive while he was serving his sentence. Jersey Shore cast members revealed that they were able to communicate with The Situation via email while he was in jail and they got weekly updates from him.

Ronnie actually opted to send Sorrentino a handwritten letter as well, for a very touching reason.

Mike's Sobriety Changed Their Relationship

Between the last season of Jersey Shore and the first season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, Mike got sober. He went into treatment in 2015 and has stayed sober since.

When he appeared on Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, he was concerned he wouldn't be able to maintain his sobriety in the Shore House, but he managed.

After seeing how Ronnie's drinking and depression had spiraled during Family Vacation Season 1, Sorrentino suggested that Ortiz-Magro should go to rehab too. At the time Ronnie was not pleased with the suggestion.

However, Ronnie did eventually take The Situation's suggestion. He went to rehab in January of 2019 and completed a 30-day program.

Sources close to Ronnie revealed that Mike's sobriety had inspired him to get help. A source close to Ronnie said, “Seeing his best friend, Mike Sorrentino, complete rehab and turn his life around made Ronnie feel like he could do the same for himself."

Ronnie was in rehab the same time that Mike was in jail, and that handwritten note he sent Mike was about their shared experiences.

They're Like Brothers Now

So though Ronnie and Mike have been through a lot of drama, they put it all behind them while they were going through their respective struggles. Ronnie said, “Over the last year, we’ve got really, really close. I would consider him like a brother.”

The Jersey Shore family reunited with The Situation when he was released from jail in September of 2019. The fam is all back together for the second half of the third season of _Jersey Shore: Family Vacation," which premieres this Thursday.
