After a hiatus from "The Real Housewives of New York," Bethenny Frankel returned to the show and she and author Carole Radziwill- who penned the memoir "What Remains: A Memoir of Fate, Friendship and Love" after the cancer death of her husband, Anthony Radziwill - quickly became friends, and even went on a trip to the Galagapos Islands together when the show wasn't filming. "Bethenny and I are good friends. I don't have to defend that… There's a naturalness in my relationship, in my friendship with Bethenny, and it's nice," Radziwill said at the season 9 reunion.

By season 10, however, the friendship was seriously fractured, although viewers knew long before Radziwell, who thought it was simply a temporary issue. Fans of the show, however, saw Frankel's commentary throughout the season, which would turn out to be Radziwill's last, and realized what was happening to a friendship the author still thought was strong. She talked about the fractures with Heather McDonald, host of the "Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald" podcast, a show that regularly features guests from the "Real Housewives" franchises.

It was apparently a new haircut and wardrobe that sparked the split between Radziwill and Frankel.

“The audience sometimes knows things that are going on that the characters in the show don’t know," she said of drama that was happening on a trip to Mexico. "So I didn’t know it was going on. I was having a good time on the vacation. And then when you watch it back you’re like, ‘Oh what? She’s crying that we’re not friends?’ Which wasn’t even true.” McDonald reminded Radziwill that a new haircut and wardrobe were behind the beef between the two friends, which is symbiotic of the superficial nature of the "Real Housewives" franchises, which Radziwill told the podcast host are heavily edited to create specific storylines. .

During a recent appearance on "The Jenny McCarthy Show," Radziwill reminisced about the friendship between her and Frankel, as well as its demise. "I was a very good friend to her. That's all I'm going to say," she said. "I supported her in her charities, I gave her a lot of money… I really cared about her... I was just being a really good friend to her. I think I was trying to establish some boundaries at the end and sometimes people don't do well with that."

In 2017, as the friendship was breaking down, Radziwill wrote a blog suggesting that the relationship was very one-sided. "When I ran the marathon she sent me a balloon, a hat, and a bitchy text," Radziwill wrote on BravoTV.com. Radziwill was running the marathon to raise money for an animal charity. But since leaving "The Real Housewives of New York" following that contentious 10th season, Radziwill - who won three Emmy Awards, one for a story she produced for the ABC show "Profiles from the Frontline" about land mines in Cambodia, as well as a Peabody - Radziwill has immersed herself in politics and is closely following the upcoming 2020 election.
