Selena Gomez herself is a well-established pop artist that innumerable amount of fans constantly turn to for musical inspiration and help through rough times in life. Even though she holds such a high place in fans worldwide’s hears, it appears that even Gomez herself has someone like that in her musical library, and it may be a selection that comes as a surprise.
Back in 2018, the singer posted to her Instagram to share Daigle’s work, saying, “So, a lot of you asked about anxiety and depression . . . and I want to suggest a song for you to listen to, if you like it. No worries if you don’t.”
Gomez then went on to explain why that particular song and Daigle’s music as a whole resonates with her so deeply, making her a devout fan of the 28 year old performer.
The post continued, “But, as some people know, I like to listen to worship music. And this song, in particular, makes me feel like I’m talking about that feeling, you know like, ‘I’m not going anywhere, I’m just showing up,’ but it’s really hard to not get worked up or upset when you constantly feel that you’re doing the right thing and you’re showing up for people and you’re wanting to be nice, and you’re doing all this stuff, and you’re like, ‘why am I not feeling good?’, you know?”
“So, I’ll stop talking and just suggest this song that I really love, of course it’s by Lauren Daigle, don’t get annoyed that I keep talking about her, but she’s like speaking my language. . . I love you!” The post concluded. The song that Gomez is referencing is Daigle’s ‘This Girl.’
It appears that Daigle is enthralled by Gomez being a fan of hers, and when E! News approached her at the Billboard Music Awards they jokingly asked the singer, “Is Selena your new agent?”
“[Selena] sent me a video of her driving in the car and almost got in a car wreck because she was singing along and videoing herself. Her friend was videoing her but she slammed on the brake because her sensors went off.” She commented to the publication.
Daigle released her latest body of work entitled ‘Look Up Child’ back in 2018, and certainly counts Gomez as a fan of hers. The Christian singer’s music carries powerful messages of self-preservation, mental strength, and overt faith.
