This wouldn’t be the first-time rumors of the show’s cancellation or possibly one or more of the sisters wouldn’t be returning to the show have surfaced. In 2012, one year after the show aired, eldest sister, Toni Braxton stated she wanted out of the show, and did not want to return for a third season. During an interview with Wendy Williams, the singer shared how she didn’t like the lack of privacy the show granted her.

Three seasons later, ‘Love and War’ singer, Tamar Braxton stated in the show’s sixth season she would not be returning. Prior to that in 2018, everyone but Traci Braxton refused to sign their contracts due to their demands not being met by the network and production company. The partial family strike soon caused a rift between the already drama-filled sibling relationship. The sisters and network eventually came to an agreement just in time to kick off their seventh season that aired March 2019.

Once again, speculations of the family-centered series being canceled have resurfaced. On Feb. 20, talk show host Wendy Williams shared the news regarding the alleged cancellation during her Hot Topics segment. The mention came a day after the Jasmine Brand reported that a source stated a variety of issues were occurring behind the scenes that are leading to the possible cancellation.

The source stated, “It’s a strong possibility that the show will be canceled. Ratings have declined, [and] the sisters are not interested in what the network is offering in terms of a contract.”

In addition to the contract negotiations and drop in ratings, the source also mentioned that Tamar was no longer under a contract; therefore, had no legal obligation to film if she decided not to.

Tamar Braxton instantly squashed rumors of the show being canceled and her not returning after a fan tweeted asking her if the show was returning. Braxton replied stating the sisters had recently wrapped up shooting for the show. The tweet has since been deleted from the singer’s page.

The apparent delay in airing its eighth season was due to the family taking time off to mourn the death of their niece who passed in April 2019. E! News reported in June 2019 that the sudden death of Lauren Braxton, daughter of their older brother, Michael Braxton was due to a heroine and fentanyl overdose. News of the tragedy came mid-season of the show's airing.

No official announcement of the show’s eighth season has been made by the network; however, Trina Braxton made a statement on the Jasmine Brand’s Instagram page that the show would be returning in March. After viewing the show’s Instagram page, many are left to wonder if the rumors are true since no promotion has been done. As fans patiently wait for an air date in March, several of the sister’s announced on their individual Instagram pages a week ago the show’s first and second seasons has been picked up by Netflix and are available to view.

Hopefully, this will be enough to hold fans over until the eighth season returns to WeTv.
