In mid-September, Lil Nas X finally released his debut studio album, "Montero." That arrived after a bit of a wait for his fans, as Nas initially planned a summer release date, back in late March.
Montero ended up being the number two album in the country, and was led by two chart-topping, hits, in "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" and "Industry Baby," featuring Jack Harlow. "Sun Goes Down" was also another lead single.

Nas X Discusses Taking Shrooms During Recording Process Of His Album
In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Nas X was asked about his Montero album, and he revealed an interesting method, that helped him during the recording process. This was that Nas X began taking shrooms, and he ended up making even more huge records.
“I was able to open up a lot. I was able to write actual stories about my life and put it into my music. I actually did that for the first time. You take certain things like kissing a guy onstage: I know that’s going to be something that’s talked about. But let’s get into the root cause of why it’s being talked about.”

Nas X Had Friends Alongside Him, To Make Sure He Was Attended To
Nas X also revealed that when he was taking these shrooms, he had two sober friends with him, to make sure that he would be fine. When he was taking these shrooms, he didn't record music right away, but these were taken, over the course of him creating the Montero album. Nas X added that that this "allowed him to push past lots of lingering feelings of self-consciousness."
'Montero' Has Been One Of The Biggest Albums Of 2021
Nas X certaintly didn't disappoint, in the aftermath of Montero's release. Fans were treated to 15 tracks, and additional appearances from Doja Cat, Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion, and Miley Cyrus. More songs started to pick up traction, such as "That's What I Want," and "Scoop," featuring Doja.
Many expected Montero to be the number one song on the Billboard 200 chart, but Drake's "Certified Lover Boy" held that position, again. The number two debut for Montero was still very impressive, and showed that Nas X is capable of creating a myriad of hits, and isn't the one-hit wonder that many tried to paint him to be, after the massive success of his "Old Town Road" single, featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, back in 2019.
Nas X Has Embraced His Critics
Nas X. has also brought controversy in 2021, which includes moves like twerking on Satan in the "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" music video, and selling Nike Air Max 97 "Satan Shoes," which weren't authorized by Nike. He also isn't afraid to express his sexuality as a gay man, in his music videos. This has since drawn constant criticism from rapper Lil Boosie, who goes on homophobic rants against Nas X, with one of the latest tweets encouraging Nas X to commit suicide. That came after Nas X jokingly claimed that he has a song with Boosie. In the end though, Nas X is who he is, and doesn't roll over to pressure.
