Ed Sheeran Recalls Childhood Friendship With Wife Cherry Seaborn

Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn usually keep their love life very private, but Sheeran decided to give the public a backstory into their relationship.
The pair got married in an intimate wedding in January 2019, and they share a 1-year-old daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
The "Thinking Out Loud" artist reflected on his childhood friendship with Seaborn and how they caught up after losing contact with each other.
Ed Sheeran Glad He Didn't Date His Wife Earlier Than He Did
While appearing on Monday's podcast episode of "Armchair Expert" with Dax Shepard, Sheeran recalled growing up With Seaborn—adding that they were "really close friends" back then.
Despite their tight friendship, PEOPLE reported that the multi-award-winning artist said a romantic relationship between them "would have been a disaster" in high school.
The pair parted ways when Sheeran went on tour, and Seaborn received a scholarship to Duke University.
In 2015, the strings of fate pulled the two together in New York City. Seaborn wanted to hang out with Sheeran's friend Lauren who invited him to the outing.
Despite being confident enough to stand in front of thousands of fans to perform, Sheeran was nervous to see his old friend again. The singer-songwriter mentioned it was because the last time they hung out, they "hooked up." The 30-year-old said:
"So in my head, I was like what if she remembers that because it was like a while ago. It was very innocent. Very gentle, it was a kiss."
The magazine reported that the two currently reside in their childhood hometown. Sheeran said the move helps him feel like his "old self."
The "Perfect" Singer Almost Botched His Proposal
In an October interview with Skavlan, Sheeran explained that his proposal to Seaborn almost failed to go as planned.
The "Shivers" star said his wife's parents were together for 30 years before tying the knot, so she never grew up believing in the importance of marriage.
"So I was walking into it being like, 'I don't know if she's going to say yes," Sheeran said on the Norwegian-Swedish talk show. It all worked out for the songwriter as Seaborn said yes to his proposal in 2017.
Two years later, in January, the pair tied the knot in a quiet ceremony. In August 2020, their first child and daughter Lyra was born.
The 30-year-old Contemplated Abrupt Retirement
Sheeran has sold over 150 million records globally and won every award he could covet. He also has a fortress worth $3.7m at East Suffolk estate called Sheranville.
After reaching a career peak, The Blast reported that the singer began thinking of leaving his musical career behind.
After performing on the Ipswich stage, Sheeran told Sirius XM, "I'm 28. And like, I don't know what to do now — I've chased and chased… and got to this thing."
The singer-songwriter noted that after his album sold above 22 million copies and his tour sold out in about 19 seconds, he was no longer pressed for money.
This encouraged him to embark on a soul-searching journey. He later decided not to retire to the relief of fans worldwide.
Sheeran said, "In my year off, I was kind of searching for who I was because I stopped playing music for a bit. And music is entirely me as a person."
