There are some factors that fans have to consider when thinking about the much-anticipated reunion.

First, the HBO Max special appears to be a one-off deal as the cast has moved on with their careers with Aniston, Cox and LeBlanc having the busiest schedules due to their other projects.

Another sticking point for fans is that the unscripted cast reunion will take place on Stage 24 on the Warner Bros. lot, where the Central Perk set is still standing. This makes the reunion more of a sit-down interview special where they just sit and talk about their time on the show as well as working together.

Some fans were expecting a miniseries or at least a single episode where all of the characters reunite as a way to get an update on their lives after moving. Some fans were even holding out hope for some beloved supporting and recurring characters to return.

Cali and Noelle Sheldon, who shared the role of Emma Gellar-Green during the last season of Friends, pointed out in a recent interview about Season 10 episode four, “The One With the Cake."

In the episode, Chandler recorded a video message for Emma on her 18th birthday. In it, he said, “Hi Emma. It’s the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?”

Many fans thought that the particular episode would be a great way to revisiting the series in a scripted form on particular this year.

Despite fans' disappointment over the reunion, in retrospect, the official announcement wasn’t much of a surprise considering Jeffrey Klarik sent out a tweet one day prior.

Klarik has been the long-time partner (both romantically and creatively) of Crane shared a “Throwback Thursday” post on social media. He added the hashtag #friendsreunion. So he had let the cat out of the bag without anyone noticing.

Klarik's tweet seemed more of a tester to see if fans would react before the official announcement was made.
