We’ll be there for THIS! The world has been awaiting this moment for years and years, and our dreams are finally coming true. That’s right, a ‘Friends’ reunion is officially happening! The beloved hit sitcom first aired in 1994 and quickly became one of the most popular shows of all time. With 10 seasons, the show follows the lives of best friends Ross, Phoebe, Chandler, Monica, Rachel and Joey, who live in New York and navigate through their lives together.

As news quickly spreads of the reunion show, many fans hoped that the return of everyone’s favorite best friends would lead to a reboot of the series. However, this is unfortunately not the case. The reunion is a one time deal, featuring no title and no script. Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry, all six of the original actors, have locked in to return for the event, and it will air on March 5, 2020.

‘Friends’ is without doubt one of the most popular television series ever. Though it ended its 10 season run in 2004, the show is still widely watched, constantly being aired on both regular television channels and streaming services. All 10 seasons were available on Netflix for quite awhile, but it was recently announced that ‘Friends’ would no longer be featured on Netflix starting in 2020. However, the announcement of the 2020 ‘Friends’ reunion special comes as news of the new platform on which the show will be available: HBO Max, launching in May of 2020.
The news of the ‘Friends’ reunion brings back faint memories of a time when producers tried (and majorly failed) to allow the show to live on past the final episode. After ‘Friends’ ended, a spinoff show was created on everyone’s favorite food loving friend: the show was titled ‘Joey’ and followed the actor through his life after the original six parted ways. While the show certainly had potential, it was an epic failure: after just two seasons, it was cut.
Even though ‘Friends’ is not coming back as a series and will only return for a one time event, the internet is LIVING for the news. People on Twitter share a collective excitement at the news we have all been dreaming of for years. Some speculate possible themes and theories of the special, while others simply take the time to connect with other fans and bond over the common ground. So far 2020 has been off to a rough start, but this news definitely makes our day, our month, and even our year!
