Nicki Minaj Makes Headlines Again, For The Wrong Reasons

For all the feminist power that Nicki Minaj loves to rap about in rather unsavory words, her own life seems a bit messed up primarily because of the company she keeps. We understand she is a rap star and has a badass image to maintain, but when she starts to be with genuinely bad people for real, fans have to call her out. And they do. Not that it seems Minaj cares, because she does want she wants to do. But this time, it leaves us all with a bad taste...

Her Brother Is A Jailbird

Nicki's brother, Jelani Maraj first came under the scanner in 2015 when he was accused of predatory sexual assault on a child under 13 years of age, and also charged with child endangerment. Initially, Minaj did not seem to care, posting adulatory social media messages about her brother and her love for him. She even posted bail for him but changed her tune when he was found guilty and sentenced to 25 to life. After that, she distanced herself from him and his unsavory reputation.

Her Husband Is No Better

So okay, you can't choose family. But you do choose who you marry, right? And Nicki Minaj chose to marry Kenneth Petty, who has been in jail several times, for attempted first-degree rape (armed with a knife) in 1995 and for the first-degree manslaughter in 2006. Minaj knows about it all and still refers to Petty as "Clyde to my Bonnie" which is another instance of romanticizing something that should be held more in contempt. Minaj's "romantic choice" leaves us wondering...

She Actually Defends Petty

Minaj isn't the least uncomfortable about having married a convicted sex offender. She actually took to social media to boo down the booers, saying that Petty was just 15 at the time, and the girl who accused him was 16. She ranted about the Internet and trolls about how they could not even run their life, so should probably try to stop running hers. Minaj is pretty clear, her fans cannot dictate to her about her life's choices. While that is a good principle to have, the Internet is still being petty about Petty.

Can She Draw A Line At Collaborations?

So you can't choose family, and you just fall in love. Even if her fans give her a free pass on the brother and the husband, there is still the matter of her collaboration with Tekashi 6ix9ine. This dude pled guilty to the "use of a child in a sexual performance". He was convicted, and it was after this conviction that Minaj decided to do a song with him. And this is the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back, and has really angered her fans. Rightly so.
