Kaia Gerber knocked the camera dead on Friday, appearing in a new image posted to her Instagram. The 18-year-old model and daughter to Cindy Crawford has mostly been fronting media outlets for marching the Fashion Week runways of late, but there’s more to Kaia’s career than a quick catwalk appearance.
Earlier today, Kaia posted a photo of herself from her I.D. magazine cover. The pared-down snap managed to encompass casual, edgy, sporty, and sexy all at once. It’s also been going down a storm with Kaia’s 5.3 million followers.
Kaia’s photo showed her seated in a simple setting. The brunette had her long legs crossed as she sat on a white bed with a black railing visible, also backed by a blue-painted cupboard supporting a lamp and bric-a-brac.
Kaia was the shining star, though. She was showing off her goofy side by posing with her brown bob soaking-wet and messy, also winking at the camera. Kaia wore a black ruffled shirt worn unbuttoned for a cleavage-flashing finish, also rocking white sneakers – no pants were visible.
A caption from Kaia came as a gushing one.
“@i_d cover !!! thank you from the bottom of my heart @alastairmckimm @willyvanderperre for really seeing me on this one. & a special thank you to @jeremyoharris for interviewing me, I’m forever your biggest fan. reminiscing on this day ? and how lucky I am to work with talented minds who I get to call my friends @anthonyturnerhair @lynseyalexander @emmaroachstudio @samuel_ellis,” she wrote.
The snap proved popular in very little time, racking up over 83,000 likes in just one hour.
Kaia has made headlines this week for refusing to adhere to the “model” label that technically forms her career. Speaking to Teen Vogue, Kaia aired her thoughts.
“Well, I always like to say, I model — but I am not a model. Because once you put “a” or “an” ahead of a title, it staples that to you. When going into this design process, I thought of what I would want to wear and what I would be proud of. So, my advice to others who want to navigate new territories would be to not hesitate and just do what would make you proud. Never box yourself in,” she told the magazine.
Kaia has a way to go before reaching a following seen by the likes of supermodels Kendall Jenner or Gigi Hadid. That said, 2018 saw Kaia make headlines for actually having higher social media engagement than either models – that’s more likes and comments per post than the sister to Bella Hadid and “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star.
Kaia herself now has a strong celebrity following. Her Instagram is kept tabs on by Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Billie Eilish, and Bella Thorne, plus Dove Cameron and Vanessa Hudgens.
