Well, it looks like it's finally happening. The original cast of Friends will reunite once again for an exclusive HBO Max special. While the event is still untitled and unscripted, the reunion of Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc on the original Friends soundstage, Stage 24, for the first time since the show's finale in 2004 has been confirmed. According to Variety, the stars will each take home a payday of at least $2.4 million for their participation.

The Friends reunion has been long-awaited by fans and studios alike, and with Friends' popular Netflix streaming, new fans have refreshed the show's following. The reunion is all thanks to HBO Max, who has had the reunion rumors swirling since last fall when the show was taken off of Netflix's streaming services. The streaming rights for the show had been purchased in a deal with Warner Bros. Television and will be available through the HBO Max streaming service that will be made available in May.

Along with all 236 episodes of the '90s-'00s show, HBO Max plans on debuting the reunion alongside the streaming service's own debut in an attempt to attract subscribers and compete with other streaming services. Although Friends last aired 15 years ago, the show was revitalized thanks to its streaming on Netflix, drawing in a younger generation of equally dedicated fans. According to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, physical sales of the television show have "roughly tripled" since its departure from Netflix.

It looks like the demand for the '90s sitcom is still there in high-demand. “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire ‘Friends’ library,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer for HBO Max and president of TBS, TNT, and truTV. “I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”

The reunion will be directed by Ben Winston and will be joined by Friends original executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane. The production companies involved, reportedly, are Warner Bros. Unscripted & Alternative Television and Fulwell 73 Productions. Additionally, the stars themselves, Aniston, Perry, LeBlanc, Cox, Kudrow, and Schwimmer will also be executive producing the special, giving the reunion as much authenticity as possible in an attempt to stay true to the original story and characters that the fans, old and new alike, have grown to love.
