Kylie Jenner has sparked outrage as her quest to conquer the business world continues. The 22-year-old makeup mogul and billionaire made headlines this week after her application to file a trademark for 2-year-old daughter Stormi’s name was blocked – “Stormi” and “Stormi World” were both filed for by the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star, but a clothing company is aiming to ensure that never happens.
New Orleans-based clothing brand Stormi Couture may be challenging Kylie’s attempts to profit off her daughter’s unique name, but one particular media outlet (not to mention Twitter) appeared enraged by Kylie’s overall filings.
The list of names that Kylie has filed trademarks for is nothing short of impressive. The Calabasas-based star might be CEO of her billion-dollar Kylie Cosmetics company, but it looks like she’s got her eye on more than the 2015-founded brand’s Lip Kits and 2019-founded Kylie Skin brand.
Kylie has previously filed trademarks for products including “Kylie Body by Kylie Jenner” and “Kylie Body.” She has successfully gained trademarks for “Kyliner,” “Glitter Eyes,” Kylie Museum,” plus “Kylie Kon,” and “Kylie Baby.”
CCN dubbed the mom of one’s applications as “reckless,” stating that she “must be stopped.”
Over in the Twittersphere, fans have been reacting to the story.
“You can’t trademark a name that’s been around for 60 years. @KylieJenner,” one user tweeted.
would do something better w/their platforms besides trademark things, buy things, and model things. be way cuter to be a trans advocate…i mean your dad..,” another user said.
The latter comment likely pertains to the May 2019 news that 24-year-old model and sister to Kylie, Kendall Jenner filed trademarks to potentially launch a beauty brand.
November 2019 saw Kylie make major headlines as she sold 51% of Kylie Cosmetics to global super-brand Coty Inc. The sale netted the star a sweet $600 million, also suggesting that the makeup brand is, itself, worth a total $1.2 billion.
The brand that started out with the odd lipstick and Kylie’s online makeup tutorials has now rendered the youngest Kardashian-Jenner the richest. Kylie has herself stated that she is a “self-made billionaire,” saying that her parents cut her off at the age of 15.
Kylie isn’t the only savvy businesswoman in her family. Big sister Kim Kardashian has been reported to hit billionaire status thanks to her 2019-founded SKIMS line – the shapewear, clothing, loungewear, and nightwear line that also includes underwear has been flying off shelves. SKIMS is Kim’s second major business venture, with sales of her KKW Beauty line also proving strong.
Meanwhile, 35-year-old Khloe continues to sell her popular Good American line, with 40-year-old Kourtney also dabbling in business via her Poosh lifestyle brand.
