President Donald Trump expresses his opinions (that no one asked for) yet again, this time going after a movie that has recently made history at the 2020 Academy Awards. Even with politics aside, Trump is infamous for his controversial statements online, often taking to Twitter to type out fiery call out tweets, long winded rants, and dramatic statements about anything and everything. Some claim that they love that the president speaks his mind freely, while others wish he would find some self control online.

The movie under fire, 'Parasite', is a Korean film that has recently made history. It is the first film in a language other than English to win an Oscar for Best Picture. Bong Joon Ho, who wrote, directed and produced the film, also took home Oscar awards in the categories of Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film. Bong Joon Ho also delivered his acceptance speech almost entirely in Korean, the crowd screeching and cheering with excitement.

'Parasite' Deserved Every Award

'Parasite' stunned audiences, rightfully earning all the awards it won. It tells the story of class differences, discrimination, and complex human relationships in relation to social status. The film received endless amounts of praise, and though director Bong Joon Ho has created other movies that reflect ideas of social classes and inequalities, RogerEbert.com describes it as the director's "most daring examination of the structural inequity that has come to define the world", differentiating 'Parasite' from the director's other films and proving that it is on a whole new level.

Apparently Donald Trump was not impressed by 'Parasite' as much as the rest of us. He brought politics into the awards show and complained about the United State's relations with South Korea, ranting:

"“By the way, how bad were the Academy Awards? And the winner is a movie from South Korea. What the hell was that all about? We got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of it, they give him the best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know. Can we get ‘Gone With the Wind’ back please? ‘Sunset Boulevard.’ So many great movies, the winner is from South Korea. I thought it was best foreign film, right? Best foreign movie. No! Did this ever happen before?”

Twitter is Displeased With Trump's Rant

After Trump's rant about the award winning film, people took to Twitter to call out and discuss Trump's behavior. Some people defended Trump, claiming that the Best Foreign Film should have been enough for 'Parasite' and saved the Best Picture category for an American film. Others were astonished at the president's lack of appreciation for a beautiful film, and criticized Trump for seemingly only disliking it because it was not in English. Yet others are not surprised at all, simply adding it to the ever growing list of things Trump has complained about.
