On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant passed away alongside his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Bryant, in a terrible car crash that killed nine total. John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Christina Mauser, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester and Ara Zobayan were also all victims of the deadly chopper crash. The group was traveling for the younger Bryant’s, and other children on the helicopters, basketball game.
The crash took place in Calabasas, California, and reports later showed that the weather conditions were not optimal travel.
Many pilots have come forward to discuss the situation behind the deadly crash, and the weather has a lot to do with it. On the morning of January 26th, the sky was so foggy that even the LAPD decided to land all of their helicopters until it cleared up.
Ara Zobayan, the pilot who also passed during the crash, was an experienced pilot. The working theory among professionals is he dropped in elevation in order to avoid the fog, but misjudged the landscape of where he was flying at immensely.
Weeks following the death of Vanessa Bryant‘s husband of 19 years and 13 year old daughter, an alleged report was posted online about her death by suicide. The video, which has now been proven false, “BREAKING NEWS,” reads what looks like a BBC News headline, “Vanessa Bryant recorded her suicide after depression attack this morning.”
The words “ACTUAL footage” appear above a video embedded in the blog post. The video still shows a picture of Vanessa Bryant and says “R.I.P. Vanessa Bryant 1982-2020.” The BBC News logo is in the corner.
Gianna Bryant had three siblings: Natalia, Bianka, and Capri Bryant. Although it was known that Gianna Bryant shared the loved of basketball with her father, Natalia was his oldest daughter whom he shared a very special bond with.
Just weeks after the Vanessa Bryant death hoax, another video with the BBC logo doctored in the bottom right corner popped up online, detailing the death of Natalia Bryant, who is 17 years old, also by suicide. published on a rather sketchy looking website that had no affiliation with the British Broadcasting Corporation, according to Snopes.com.
Both of these reports have been proven false.
With a healthy and breathing rest of the Bryant family, Vanessa and the others have been getting on as best as they can. Used to living a life away from social media, she has ended her bow of silence in tributes to her husband and daughter and many posts describing her feelings and all of the emotions running through her body.
She recently renamed the name of her foundation in order to honor her daughter Gianna Bryant, who went by the nickname Mambacita, similar to her fathers nickname ‘Mamba’. Vanessa Bryant said, “Because there is no #24 without #2, we have updated the Mamba Sports Foundation to now be called the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. Our mission remains the same – and stronger than ever – to provide opportunities to young people through sports. Thank you all for the outpouring of support and your kind donations to date as we carry forth Kobe and Gigi’s legacy.. We hope to empower young athletes in a world they left us all to help shape. #Mamba #Mambacita #wings @mambamambacitasports”
