Netflix seemingly has no intention of pumping the brakes on its steady flow of original content. Now the massive streaming platform has come forward to reveal that a new comedy film is in production.

To separate its latest project from the streaming platform's ever growing bevy of original content, Netflix has locked in two massive Hollywood names for its latest program. Jennifer Lawrence first garnered fan attention within popular culture for her portrayal of Mystique within the film X-Men: First Class back in 2011. However, the young actor did not truly evolve into a Hollywood star until her lead role as Katniss Everdeen within the explosively popular film adaptation of The Hunger Games.

Since then, Lawrence has gone on to perform within a horde of other films. Among them, the actor would go on to win an Oscar for her performance within the hit film Silver Linings Playbook. The latest role the Hunger Games star will be adding to her resume is that of an astronomer within Neflix's upcoming comedic film Don't Look Up.

Don't Look Up offers an auspiciously original plot. Netflix describes the film as "the story of two low-level astronomers, who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching asteroid that will destroy planet earth. "

While Jennifer Lawrence is set to be the star of the movie, the second astronomer mentioned within Netflix's film description has yet to be revealed.

That being said, the movie showrunner is a comedy writer and director that many Anchorman fans have likely heard before.

Adam McKay first made his mark in Hollywood with the release of the comedy cult classic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. McKay wrote the film alongside Will Ferrell, as well as directed the movie.

McKay has since gone on to write and direct Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Step Brothers, The Big Short and several other films.

Now McKay is set to write, direct and produce Netflix's new film Don't Look Up. Both McKay and the head of Netflix films have gone on to give a few words on the upcoming movie.

Speaking for a recent Netflix press release, Adam McKay offered a few words on Don't Look Up.

“I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence." McKay said. "She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call 'a dynamite act.' And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.”

Scott Stuber, head of Netflix films, also speaks highly of the opportunity Don't Look Up provides.

"Adam has always had great timing when it comes to making smart, relevant and irreverent films that depict our culture. Even if he somehow ends up predicting planet Earth’s imminent demise, we’re excited to add this to our slate before it all comes to an end.”

A release date for the film has yet to be revealed.
