With the conclusion to the 92nd Academy Awards and the history-making win of Bong Joon ho's Parasite to finish off the award season, it's apropos to take a look at the early contenders for next year's Oscars. There could potentially be a huge number of diverse films competing for the top prizes in the industry. I'm going to pick out a few of my favorite films that I can't wait to come out this year and tell you why I think they're going to be some of the best movies of the year.

Christopher Nolan's newest film TENET is set to release on July 17th. Nolan has been nominated for a total of five Academy Awards, snagging his first director nomination for his last film, Dunkirk. The plot of the film is currently unknown, but Nolan's new sci-fi thriller is going to be one of his best as the last time Nolan wrote and directed a sci-fi original, Inception, the movie won four Oscars. It's always an event for me when Nolan releases a project as his films are always a spectacle in all aspects.

Yet another sci-fi film is getting a mention on this list as one of the best sci-fi storytellers of our time is releasing a film this year. Denis Villeneuve is a true visionary when it comes to the genre with beautiful cinematography and amazing writing being the standard for his films. Villeneuve has assembled a top-notch cast for this new adaptation of Dune. Leading the cast is Timothee Chalamet, Jason Mamoa, Zendaya, and Oscar Issac and so many more all-star talent lined up for the film.

Every time Wes Anderson releases a film, his framing of the scene is always what draws you to the film. It's something that is so simple, but yet so unique and stylistic that no one in the industry can compete with him on that end. Anderson's last live-action film The Grand Budapest Hotel got nine Oscar nominations and won four of them. The film is set to release on July 24th which considered to be "better" when it comes to awards season.

Ridley Scott is most known for his sci-fi films but has directed and written a number of different types of him during his tenure in Hollywood. Scott's newest film is The Last Duel starts production in the coming months. The people involved in this film are unbelievable with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon teaming up on a screenplay for the first time since winning an Oscar for Good Will Hunting. The film is based on the true story of the last officially recognized judicial duel in 1386 France.
