Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez’s past dating history has been highly publicized from nearly its inception. Although Bieber is happily married to Hailey Baldwin now, all of the trials and tribulations, his moments of recklessness, and other personal issues of his past have been documented through and through by nearly every media outlet. However, despite being a few years removed from it all, Gomez and Bieber never really had a moment of actual resolution and amending for what occurred in their past, until now.
A source for Hollywood Life has commented to the publication that Gomez feels ‘vindicated’ about their past relationship in the wake of Bieber’s comments during an Apple Music interview, where he mentioned he had made mistakes in his past relationships.
“Selena feels vindicated by Justin’s words but that doesn’t take back all that happened while they were together,” the source said. The pair had a tumultuous dating history, having been together for a few years on and off. The couple split amongst mounting concerns of them not being able to make it work on a personal level anymore.
“Selena doesn’t want her relationship with Justin to define her but she does feel some comfort that he spoke out about what he did. She hopes that he is being genuine,” the source went on to mention, referencing the fact that a lot of media attention given to the singer/actress over recent years has been due to her relationship with Bieber. Although she was consistently releasing material and operating in her own right, the names Gomez and Bieber were synonymous with one another for quite some time in public perception.
“Justin’s words are not going to help her move forward in any way,” the source said, “that is what her music is for, to take care of those emotions.”
“Instead of rehashing things over and over she finally thinks she is in a place where her future is bright. What Justin said is what it is and she will take any positives from it that she can but it’s not going to make or break anything for her emotionally moving forward.”
In a January 2020 interview with NPR following the release of her highly anticipated album ‘Rare,’ Gomez commented that she had felt a certain level of emotional abuse while she was dating Bieber, “It’s dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I’m not being disrespectful — I do feel like I was a victim to certain abuse.”
The singer also mentioned in the interview, “I think that I have such big dreams and ideas for ways that I can give back. And right now I know that this is something that will be for life.”
