Ben Affleck has always been an actor that has kept a pretty decent following over the years. In his recent interview with the New York Times, he opened up about his personal life. He talked about a drinking problem that leads to marital problems. In opening about his drinking problem, he had an interesting thing to say about pretty much the real reason he left the "The Batman" project.

Saying, “I showed somebody The Batman script, They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again."

For about a year there has been a lot of speculation around why exactly Affleck would not be returning as the Caped Crusader. There is now this revelation that the issue had to do literally with the work that he would have had to put in.

At the time, there were said to be creative differences with the people at DC. It really depends on what you want to read and who you want to believe. If we are getting a script though, that would have forced Affleck into a dark place to play the character that could tell a lot about the film itself.

Christopher Nolan's Dark Night Trilogy presented a whole new avenue for the superhero genre. One that could actually take the time to dive pretty deep into the characters. While also presenting a story that could give actions fans what they wanted while drama fans and comic enthusiasts could also appreciate it.

Then came last year's film Joker and it was clear that a superhero movie could be shaped into a full drama. If we are picky about this though, The Joker movie sort of just used the source material vaguely while telling a powerful story. Yet, not one that was really aligned with the source material.

Most people remember Robert Pattinson for his roles in Twilight and even Harry Potter. So, the idea of him taking up the role as the dark night really was not one that fans of the character were ecstatic about.

The real reason why he probably got the part though where basically all of his roles after the box office hits. He has been an actor that over the last few years has taken on some pretty deep and diverse roles. Which, may just be what director Matt Reeves is looking for.

A Really Dark, Dark Knight

If the fact that Ben Affleck was scared to play the character because of how deep he may have had to get, is not an indicator maybe Pattinson's last roles are. From all of this, a pretty fair assumption is that we are going to be getting a dark and dramatic take on the Dark Night. One that is probably going to be closer to Todd Phillip's Joker than the DC universe where the Wonderwoman and Aquaman characters live. All that we can do at this point though is speculate and wait!
