Mellencamp said she's finding out the grisly details as they're unfolding and is not going to comment further until a greater understanding is known of what happened to the late rapper.

"We aren’t aware of any of the details beyond what we’ve been told or seen reported on the news and at this time we would like to refrain from commenting further as we wish for the focus to remain on the law enforcement officers who are diligently doing their jobs."

Mellencamp must already be getting peppered with questions from the public, because she turned off the comments to her IG post.

No arrests have been made yet in connection with Pop Smoke's death, and officials are currently working on the case. There are reports that the shooting was the result of a home invasion by masked men, but that has not yet been confirmed by officials.

Pop Smoke was a rising star in the hip-hop world after releasing his hit single, "Welcome to the Party," last year for his debut mixtape, "Meet the Woo." The single caught the attention of Nicki Minaj, who remixed the track. Smoke also teamed up with Travis Scott for their song, "Gatti."

In December of that year, Jackson collaborated with JackBoys and Travis Scott on "Gatti."

Shortly after news of his death, Minaj posted a tribute to the late rapper and alluded that his murder was the result of jealousy.
