'Queen of Tejano's' Legacy Will Be Honored At Big Concert

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, better known by her stage name Selena was a Tejana singer that had an impact on many musical artists of today. Now, 25 years after her death, a large tribute concert is being planned in her honor. On Tuesday, her family, along with their entertainment company, Q Productions announced a tribute concert to be held on May 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The concert will be called, "Selena XXV – Venticinco Años." The purpose of the concert is to show what a long-lasting impact that Selena has had on the world of music.

Suzette Quintanilla, Selena's sister, and CEO and president of Q Productions said, "Over the past 25 years, her influence and relevance has only grown through the generations." Selena had become a worldwide sensation, and her career was only on the up and up. She even had her own fan club, which was run by Yolanda Saldivar, who also managed Selena Boutiques. It was found out that Saldivar had been embezzling thousands of dollars from both her positions. On March 31, 1995, Selena was gunned down by Saldivar at the tender age of 23.

Her sister, Suzette, went on to say, "Through our father, Abraham Quintanilla, we were taught to persevere in the face of adversity and to work hard to accomplish our dreams. Those core values, along with her amazing talent and ability to connect with people has helped sustain Selena’s legacy and it is what makes her an impactful and an important role model 25 years later." She added, "My family and I are excited to celebrate this special moment of her 25 year legacy in San Antonio, Texas with her fans around the world,” Quintanilla expressed. “San Antonio and the Alamodome have always held a special place in our hearts and we’re honored that the city of San Antonio has welcomed us."

"An Event To Remember"

Even the mayor of San Antonio promised that the concert would be "an event to remember." Tickets have already gone up for sale. They range in price from $40-$200, depending on the type of seating that you are looking for. The concert is set to close with an epic laser tribute show, which is being presented by H-E-B. In addition to the concert, the family also revealed that they will be selling Selena/Spurs merchandise. The Spurs are San Antonio's NBA pro basketball team, and they are holding their first "Selena Night" on April 3.

Who Is Going To Be There?

These are the confirmed artists that are going to be performing at the Alamodome in San Antonio. They include:

Pitbull, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Kumbia All Starz, Becky G, Ally Brooke, Elida Reyna, Pete Astudillo, and The Lab

It is not certain if more artists are going to be added to the lineup. But this is a pretty amazing lineup right now as it is. This really is going to be a night to remember. The concert is also going to feature Pete Astudillo, who was a backup singer and dancer for the band Selena y los Dinos.

A life cut too short, with so much potential. It is only right that she is honored with a concert of this magnitude. Without a doubt, this is going to be a huge event, and we are pretty sure that Texas is going to see a huge influx of people come this May.
