Alongside the purple suit, Styles opted to include a black ribbon in his outfit, which many fans attribute as a personal statement of mourning in the wake of British television producer Caroline Flack's recent death by suicide. Styles dated the media personality while he was involved with 'The X Factor' back in 2011. The black ribbon is traditionally used as a symbol of mourning, so given the timing Styles' inclusion of it in his award show wardrobe choice is very apt.

He is nominated for 'Best British Album' and 'Best British Male Solo Artist' for his efforts on 'Fine Line,' the first solo album by Styles since his 2017 debut project, which shared the same name as him. That project was the first body of work by the British artist since One Direction's famous split back in 2015.
