Now that the first teaser for season 4 of Stranger Things, titled "From Russia With Love," has dropped, fans can rest easy knowing that the character of Hopper (David Harbour) is alive and well, although it seemed like he died during an explosion at the end of season 4. The teaser also revealed an important fact: not only is Hopper alive, but he also seems to be serving time in a Russian labor camp, potentially in Kamchatka (as previously teased at the end of the season 3 finale.

That's not really Russia, though

However, as is so often the case with on-location shooting, the scenes weren't really shot in Russia. Instead, they were shot in Vilnius, Lithuania. Director Shawn Levy recently spoke about filming the scenes to the city's tourism agency. He said:

“My adventure here in Lithuania in bringing the reveal of the ‘American’ to life has been a huge challenge but an even bigger inspiration, and we are so thankful to the city of Vilnius and the beautiful country of Lithuania for their hospitality. The Duffers and I have been working alongside the brilliant Netflix team for months to pull off this surprise. All the hard work was worth it, however, to bring our fans this epic reveal they’ve been hoping and waiting for. And this is only the beginning.”

Another important thing to note is that the season 4 scripts are done, meaning that production on season 4 is already underway. When asked about the scripts, Noah Schnapp, who portrays Will Byers on Stranger Things spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how excited he was to return to the world of the Upside Down. He said:

“I look forward to this so much. It’s my favorite thing in the world, and I love working with these people. It’s like a family. I read the first four scripts, and they are amazing. I can’t wait to see where they go with the rest of the season.”

Although the teaser was filmed earlier, there is still no word on when filming for season 4 will actually begin. However, Finn Wolfhard, who portrays Mike on Stranger Things, did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in January and said that filming for season 4 would start within a month or two. He also expressed excitement about the scripts. He said:

“We start really soon — in a month or two. We just got some of the scripts. Up until a few days ago, we really had no idea what was going on this season. I’m really excited for it. It’s a really crazy season.”

Is season 4 the last?

There is still one major detail about season 4 that has not yet been clarified. Early on, the show's creators, The Duffer Brothers, stated that they had a four-season arc in mind for the show. They also reiterated that they feel four seasons is a good amount of time to tell the story they want to tell. There's also the case of the young actors on the series growing up, as well as the increased demand for them for other projects. If season 4 is to be the last, here's hoping it goes out with a bang.
