In her book, Jessica writes, "I lay between them, fiercely protecting my sister from this monster, I didn’t want her to feel as disgusting as I felt...She continued to try to sleep next to my little sister, and I would just scooch Ashlee over and get between them whenever she did. I never let her near Ashlee, but I also never screamed or told her to stop." Jessica also talked about the abuse to Entertainment Tonight during a recent interview.

Jessica told the outlet, "I never wanted my sister to go through the feelings and the emotions and the pain that I was experiencing...[We] were four years apart, so I wanted to protect her even though I hadn't talked to my parents yet about it. I had my ways of making sure that none of this was happening to her."

Though the topics in her book are not easy ones to talk about, Jessica is confident in her words and the meaning behind them.

Jessica also mentioned that she will absolutely be allowing her children to read her memoir one day, saying, 'I have already spoken to them about many of the topics in the book, and I believe in being totally open with them...Some of it they are not old enough to digest right now, but in time we will be talking about all of it as a family."
