Jenelle Evans, who appeared on both 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom 2, spoke recently about her life off the screen after MTV declined to renew her contract. She says she is “having fun” and has big plans for the future.

"I've kind of been in limbo for a year since last April, and I've been wanting to venture out and do my own things, and people are like, 'Why aren't you?'" the 28-year-old said in an interview with PopCulture. "I'm stuck to this contract, and once I'm out of it, I can go and talk to other companies and stuff."

Life away from TV has been “awesome”

Evans added that she is enjoying her newfound freedom, as she no longer has to worry about the show and can focus on caring for her three children: 10-year-old Jace, 5-year-old Kaiser and 3-year-old Ensley.

"That has been awesome for me," she said. "Because it's like I'm having fun with it, versus when I was on Teen Mom it was just kind of like, 'Get the camera out of my face, I'm mad right now.' Now it's, 'Hey, I'm happy, let's go do something fun. Let's film something fun.' And whenever you try to suggest that to MTV, it gets tossed out."

No more drama

One of the best things about her split with MTV, Evans said, is that she no longer has to deal with all the drama that accompanies reality TV. Being away from the show has allowed her to simplify her life.

"They have you film with people that you don't necessarily want to film with,” she said. “You've got the baby daddies, the grandparents, the exes, just constantly, something's always going on. When you involve kids and marriages, divorces, trying to co-parent ... I mean you've got drama there no matter what. I'm trying to steer away from that right now."

Keeping up with fans on YouTube

Now that people are no longer able to follow Evans’ life on TV, she is working hard to develop her personal YouTube channel in order to stay in touch with fans.

"It's not just other companies," Evans explained. "I'm not gonna lie, MTV, they're iffy about if they really wanna let me go or not. So I'm just sitting here, doing my own thing trying to keep YouTube updated, because my fans, they want to know, they're digging into my life, and they want to know what's up!"

MTV says it will ‘not cover her story’ going forward

Earlier this month, when asked about Evans’ status with the network, MTV said the decision to stop filming Evans came about a year after it terminated its contract with her former partner David Eason.

"MTV ended its relationship with David Eason over a year ago in February 2018 and has not filmed any new episodes of Teen Mom 2 with him since," the company said in a statement. "Additionally, we have stopped filming with Jenelle Eason as of April 6, 2019 and have no plans to cover her story in the upcoming season."
