Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from their duties as royals left a gaping hole that had to be filled. Someone had to take on their official duties and make sure that the royal family’s reputation remained in tact.

As it turns out, Kate Middleton picked up a lot of those duties, and reports suggest that she was happy to do so. According to The Mirror, the Cambridges have picked up quite a bit of slack left behind by Meghan and Harry.

“Harry and Meghan deciding to up sticks and leave without any thought about how it could affect them is pretty selfish,” one source told the publication.

“If the Sussexes are only here half the year then it will fall to William and Kate to pick up the slack with more engagements, more pressure, and that has not even been considered.” Fortunately, it sounds like Kate Middleton really enjoys the work she does on behalf of the royal family, even if her role has increased.

According to The Sun, Kate has recently been very focused on a survey project focused on early childhood. “Kate is extremely passionate about the work the Foundation does and she has ideas and plans for how she believes it can be used to help some of the causes which she is particularly passionate about,” a source told the publication.

Apparently, Kate has been taking the past few weeks to absorb information and learn new things that will help to increase her impact.

“In recent weeks Kate has visited a lot of organizations and spoke to lots of experts and has soaked a lot of information. She wants to use that to go out and bring about change to many of those who need support,” the insider added.

Even as their roles inside the family increase, neither William nor Kate want that increased role to have a negative impact on their work for their foundation, which they’re both particularly passionate about working with.

“William and Kate may have extra responsibilities in the wake of Harry and Meghan’s move to Canada but neither of them wants that to be at the expense of their Foundation,” the source said. “They both work very closely with the team and Kate is sitting in on more and more meetings so she can have an input in the work that is going on.”

The source said that it had been a bit of a tug of war between what Harry and William wanted, but now, William and Kate’s goals can be the priority.
