Justin Bieber Gets Vulnerable About His Break From Music

Justin Bieber is pop royalty. Yet, at the height of his fame in 2015, he walked away from music, leaving fans stunned and missing the star. For the past five years, the music world has gone without a new album from the Biebs, and now he's finally opening up about why that is. On the precipice of his new album, Bieber talks about his physical and mental health struggles. He told reporter Zane Lowe, "I was really tired emotionally, physically, and I was sick and I didn’t realize I was sick."

Feeling Worn Down

Justin went on to tell Zane Lowe, "I had Epstein-Barr, which is like, it’s called Mono. And then I have Lyme disease. So it was that, it was just the exhaustion of just being on tour, and then it was just everything compounded I think, to be honest." His health struggles made performing as well as making new music difficult. In 2017, the illness pushed him to have to cancel his Purpose Tour, something that was extremely difficult for him to do.

Mentally Drained

Bieber also opened up the effects of fame on his mental health. The pressure of fame and the constant invasion of privacy by the paparazzi were extremely difficult on Justin. Constantly being bombarded no matter where he went, it all became too much for Bieber. In August 2018, Bieber was photographed in New York City crying as his now-wife, Hailey, comforted him. He opened up about that day, saying, "There has been a lot of things that have happened in my life and this was a point in my life where I was just like, so overwhelmed ... being a normal person and crying."

Finding Love

Justin has been honest about his struggles, as well as how he overcame them. Getting on proper medication was the first step. He also fell in love. Justin and Hailey first met in 2009. The two remained friends, reconnecting in 2018 when they began dating. The two married in 2019 in a stunning ceremony. Hailey has been a huge help in Bieber's recovery process. She not only brings happiness to his life, but she's also around to make sure he makes his health a priority.

Making A Comeback

Justin is ready to make his big comeback. With his physical and mental health in check, he feels ready to reveal the new Bieber to the world. His seventh album, Changes, dropped on Valentine's Day and is already set for a No.1 Debut on the Billboard 200 Chart. Bieber also released a 10 part docuseries on Netflix, tracking his personal evolution as well as the making of his new album. The series was met with praise by both critics and fans.

Stronger Than Ever

Justin has proved he's a survivor. His ability to overcome his problems while the whole world watches is both admirable and inspirational. His vulnerability will hopefully inspire others to be open about the ways in which their struggling. As an avid advocate for mental health, Bieber is setting an example for having honest conversations about mental health struggles. With a new album that's proving to be a shining success, as well as a new wife and happy relationship, we can only expect Bieber will keep winning.
