Justin Bieber is stepping back into the limelight as his new album Changes has released, marking the end of a 5-year hiatus for the pop star. But why the hiatus in the first place? At the height of Justin Bieber's career, he was selling out stadiums, touring around the world, had a notoriously dedicated fanbase, and made albums that were constantly at the top of the charts. So why step away from it all? Did he have some unknown personal issues going on? Or was he just tired of it all and simply needed a break?

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe for his new album, Bieber opened up about being sick and how it effected his performance as an artist. “I had Epstein-Barr, which is like, it’s called Mono. And then I have Lyme disease," Bieber said. "So it was that, it was just the exhaustion of just being on tour, and then it was just everything compounded I think, to be honest.” Justin attributed the illnesses to why he couldn't perform anymore, saying that he had pushed himself past his limit.

Since his diagnosis, Justin Bieber has been trying to get the right medications to best treat his conditions. The person who has been helping him out most, according to Bieber, has been his wife Hailey. While discussing the necessary precautions he has to take nowadays, Bieber lists listening to his wife as one of them. "Listen to Hailey when she says she feels that I’m run down," he says. "And it’s good to have her as checks and balances. She can let me know when I’m like, ‘All right, you’re looking depleted right now.'”

During the hiatus, Justin Bieber also focused on his relationship with religion. "The way I look at my relationship with God and with Jesus is, I'm not trying to earn God's love by doing good things," Bieber said in an emotional interview with Apple Music. "God has already loved me for who I am before I did anything to earn and deserve it." As he reflected back on his self-destructive behavior in the past, Justin described it as "dark, really dark," and was happy and grateful that he could make it out of that point in his life.

Now that Bieber is back to making music, he has admitted he was unsure of the decision at first and was hesitant he would even be able to do it. “What am I going to talk about again? Is it going to be received? I’m starting to compare with other artists.” Justin Bieber shared these fears of his for the first time and, as he is getting back into what he is used to doing, has regained some of the confidence he felt left him during his break. Justin Bieber's newest album Changes is proof of just that.
