Kobe Bryant's Memory Very Much Present At All-Star Weekend

If there was ever an NBA party it would have to be the NBA All-Star weekend. A lot of stars from the game and other walks of life come out and enjoy a wide array of activities. That all lead up to the all-star game itself that is played on Sunday night.

Ever since the tragedy that took the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and other people in the infamous helicopter crash this date, the all-star game, was marked as the NBA's memorial to Bryant.

A Mood Change

Some of the stars in attendance including the former President of the United States Barack Obama. He is also a very famous adoptive son of Chicago. So, it was only fitting that he would be part of the festivities that were taking place in the windy city.

He was part of a charity event that included the NBA's rising stars. These guys also put on a show on the court. Luka Doncic, Trey Young and Zion Williamson where the most notable names to take part in the event on and off the court.

The Kobe Bryant Trophy

During the whole weekend, the NBA made a conscious effort to ensure that the memory of Kobe would be honored throughout the events. Pretty much starting out the weekend the NBA commissioner Adam Silver came out and announced that the new MVP trophy for the All-Star game would be named the Kobe Bryant MVP.

Since Kobe had actually won the award a whopping 4 times during his playing career. From there the references to Kobe and his legacy did not stop for a second.

Hall of Fame Announcements With A Kobe Effect

On Friday the Basketball Hall of Fame also announced the finalists for this year's class. Among the finalists are none other than Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett. Three of the best players from the previous generation.

The Hall of fame enshrinement ceremony is set to be one of the most memorable because of the circumstances surrounding it. This actually led the Hall of Fame to suspend the voting on some of its categories such as the contributor's category amongst others. Just so that the focus will be on the players more this year!

The Actual Game

For the 2nd time in a row, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo were set to be the captains of the teams that faced off in the actual game. With team Giannis sporting number 24 on all of their jerseys. While Team LeBron had number 2 jerseys to honor Gianna Bryant. This year, we got an actual game! The format changed creating a 4th quarter without a time limit. Where the teams played to a specific number of points.

It was clear that the famed mamba mentality came to the forefront. At least in those closing moments of the game when the players really did go all out!
