Brad Pitt & Leonardo DiCaprio's Surprising New Bromance

By Beca Dalimonte

You might know that Titanic star, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Fight Club actor, Brad Pitt, starred together in last year's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. What you might not know is that the pair are good friends.

In an interview with Today Pitt and DiCaprio surprised some fans when they mentioned that the 2019 film wasn't actually their first on-screen connection.

When they were much younger, Pitt and DiCaprio both worked on the ABC sitcom Growing Pains and, although they never shared a scene, the show helped to launch both of their individual careers.

The pair of leading men have publicly gushed over their opportunity to work together on Tarantino's film, with Pitt even mentioning DiCaprio in his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor at this year's Oscars. "Leo," he said, "I'll ride your coattails any day, man. The view's fantastic."

When the film was playing at the Cannes Film Festival, DiCaprio revealed to Time that it was easy to portray an on-screen friendship with someone like Pitt.

"[...] It was incredibly easy working with Brad," he said, "And I think together we forged, hopefully, a great cinematic bond in a film about our industry together."

What's the reason behind the pair's seemingly natural, easygoing rapport? Pitt believes that it was because of their shared experiences in the industry.

"We have kind of the same reference points, we came on at the same time, have similar experiences to laugh about," he shared, adding "I hope we get to do it again, it was great fun."

The pair have also both had their fair share of attention from the media, with both being seen as hot commodities in the late '90s and early 2000s.

DiCaprio and Pitt's new bromance also comes with the pair exchanging a couple of new nicknames. Pitt has been known to refer to Dicaprio as "LDC," while DiCaprio has taken to calling Pitt "Lover."

“Lover. He calls me lover,” Pitt said in one interview. “It’s a bit confusing, but I roll with it."

Brad Pitt has also joked that he would have definitely "shared the raft" with Dicaprio, a reference to DiCaprio's character's death scene in the 1997 film, Titanic.

As of the 2020 Oscars, the pair now has a total of three Oscars and five Golden Globes between them and that number will surely only grow as they work on more projects together and apart.
