Justin Bieber has had his fair share of health issues over the years, but perhaps none as dangerous and debilitating as in the previous few.
In fact, things had got so bad with a handful of illnesses that Bieber was forced to cancel his whole tour that was scheduled to take place in 2017. Even in the latter part of 2018, he still was struggling to get well, resulting in postponing his wedding with now-wife, Hailey Baldwin, which had to wait until the end of last year.
Bieber recently sat down with Apple Music’s, Zane Lowe to discuss how his health problems have affected him over the last several years.
Regarding his health, Bieber first discussed being diagnosed with Epstein-Barr syndrome, as well as, Lyme disease and how it took a drastic toll on his body, ultimately, resulting in an unexpected tour cancellation in 2017. For Bieber, he was constantly tired and couldn’t get out of the funk.
“I was really tired emotionally, physically, and I was sick and I didn’t realize I was sick,” he began. “I had Epstein-Barr, which is like, it’s called Mono. And then I have Lyme disease. So it was that it was just the exhaustion of just being on tour, and then it was just everything compounded I think, to be honest.”
Bieber had already been performing at a number of venues but had yet to make it to the stadium portion of the tour. And despite being sick and playing through the shows he could, the stadium performances were something Bieber couldn’t even fathom doing in his condition. “I was supposed to do a bunch of stadiums,” Bieber said, referencing him reaching a breaking point.
“I mean I pushed through the last month or two, and I couldn’t believe I pushed through that. So when they were like, ‘We got to still do stadiums,’ I was like, ‘This is not going to be good. I’m not going to be able to make it through that.’ And it’s just, no, it won’t work. And I’m someone who pushes, pushes, pushes until it’s the last straw, So I just couldn’t do it.”
During the scary time, Bieber claims that he had no idea ‘what the hell was going’ with his health. This was one of the main reasons Baldwin and he put off their wedding. They felt it was in the best interest to find a diagnosis before some extravagant wedding. Nonetheless, Bieber took his health very seriously in trying to determine what was wrong with him.
“I think just making sure that I am just doing the right treatments for it, doing the right IV’s and all that sort of stuff. Taking the necessary precautions, necessary to not get any worse, I guess,” Bieber revealed, sharing how important his health is to him now.
The newlywed’s wife is more than just his best friend, she’s also the one who can tell when something’s not right with Bieber, making sure to let him know. The Yummy singer is eternally grateful for that.
“Listen to Hailey when she says she feels that I’m run down, and it’s good to have her as checks and balances. She can let me know when I’m like, ‘All right, you’re looking depleted right now,” he said.
With the right diagnoses in hand and the support system of his wife and medical professionals, it’s safe to say that Bieber is now in good hands, at least as it pertains to his health.
