Before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to step down from their royal duties early this year, one royal family member already did. In November of 2019, Prince Andrew, the third child of Queen Elizabeth II, asked his mother if he can step back from his duties as part of the Royal Family.
This decision came after Prince Andrew‘s mortifying interview with BBC. When host Emily Maitlis raised Prince Andrew’s involvement in sex acts with Virginia Roberts Giuffre or “any young woman trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein,” his reply shocked the world.
According to Prince Andrew, he considers sex as a positive act for the guy, referring to how he would remember sleeping with the then 17-year-old Giuffre. Because of such a disastrous interview, the son of Queen Elizabeth was ousted from Buckingham Palace.
From then on, Prince Andrew has had a series of negative public scrutiny as the world dug around the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking issue, which, unfortunately, involved the royal member.
Is this the reason why Meghan says Prince Andrew is the ‘most embarrassing uncle’?
According to a source close to the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan is actually relieved that finally she and her family now has a good distance away from Prince Andrew. The friend said that the Prince actually didn’t treat Meghan well in their previous interactions. He was “stuff and pompous” and he wasn’t welcoming to the wife of his nephew.
It was also reported that Meghan felt uncomfortable and disturbed with how Prince Andrew handled his BBC interview, especially on the part where he was asked about having sex with a minor.
Prince Andrew will celebrate his 60th birthday on February 19, 2020, and it has been confirmed that the Sussexes wouldn’t attend the celebration.
Why won’t Meghan and Prince Harry attend Prince Andrew’s birthday party?
According to a source, while their refusal to attend is an open secret, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already made prior commitments that cannot be canceled. Nevertheless, the couple plans to send a gift and a video message to be played at the event.
Now that it is confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan will skip the royal birthday celebration on February 19, rumors are also going around about them not attending their cousin Princess Beatrice’s wedding. Let’s wait for the wedding day itself to find out!
Princess Beatrice is set to marry her Italian property tycoon boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at the Buckingham Palace in May 2020. Her father Prince Andrew will be walking her down the aisle amid the controversies surrounding him in recent months.
