A new social network called ‘GIST,’ which is built around what you and your friends purchase online just launched a GREAT tool that can tell you how much you are really spending in China!
The startup designed the program to start an interesting and important conversation about issues with the US/China and to get people talking about how much their online spending goes to China — and by extension to the Chinese Communist Party. Obviously, many customers might want to buy products made right here in the United States and know exactly who is getting their money, but sometimes it is hard online to really know what you are getting.
Well, GIST has just figured out a way to get everyone instantly informed!
“I’m a big believer in ‘voting with your dollar'” said Walter Haas, CEO, and Founder of GIST. “We built this tool to help reveal the direct role all of us play in our economy and geopolitics. Talk is cheap, but what you buy is literally a reflection of what you value.”
So, how do they do it you ask? The company’s website quickly syncs your Gmail to see where you are purchasing products and spending your money — and ultimately who you are supporting in the process. Don’t worry about sharing the information, because, unlike other social media sites, GIST keeps all purchase history 100% private by default.
Obviously, the point of this is to understand that the power of your spending can also represent your values. Plus, you will be stunned at your own results!

As for GIST, it is designed to give trustworthy e-commerce product recommendations by telling you what your friends have already bought. It’s for REAL, unlike many of the other sponsored social media posts, everything you see on GIST comes from an authentic purchase from someone from inside your friend network. “E-commerce has a trust problem,” Haas continued, a retail and marketing veteran from Levi’s and Ron Johnson’s recently IPO’d startup Enjoy. Adding, “which is why everything on GIST is real and verified.”
The best part, it will tell you if anyone in your network bought anything you suggested, making you a famous Influencer amongst your friends! Similar to social media posts, you write captions for your shared products and your friends can like and comment on them. According to the company, “Unlike Pinterest, GIST does not require you to pull items or URLs to curate your lists. The streamlined process automatically consolidates your purchases in one place. With no required maintenance, your entire buying history is at your fingertips and PRIVATE until you decide what to share with the click of a button.”
So, how much are you really spending in China and are you ok with it?!
