Mariska Hargitay is well-known for her role as Olivia Benson in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. But did you know she’s not just an actress, but she’s also a producer? She recently posted an image that pays tribute to her skills as a director, and fans are here for it.
On top of this, Hargitay did a cute Valentine’s Day post (or two) to her fans, ensuring that they knew she would be their Valentine’s if they had nobody else.
Here’s to Carisi crushing his case and another amazing episode of #SVU directed by @Mariska!
Thanks for watching with us. We’ll be back in two weeks with another all-new episode – same time, same place. pic.twitter.com/yYAItAbGzQ

So far in the current season of L&O: SVU, Hargitay has directed episode 11! We hope she’ll direct more. She spoke on a podcast about SVU, called Squadroom, about the challenges of directing and how important preparing to be in charge is.
“The detectives that are part of the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit investigate crimes of sexual nature. While the focus of the other shows in the Law & Order franchise largely deal with murder cases, the SVU detectives frequently deal with crimes, such as rapes, in which the victim survives and assists authorities in the investigation. The series features a cast of veteran actors, including Mariska Hargitay, Richard Belzer, Dann Florek and, after the first season, rapper Ice-T. Occasional crossover episodes feature detectives from other series in the `Law & Order’ franchise.”
“This is, for me, the most challenging part of me directing,” Hargitay explained. “What I’ve learned now, one of the most important parts of directing is prep. It’s when so much of the work is done. And my prep, just to be candid here, is always compromised because I’m shooting the previous episode and they don’t want to lose me for too much. It’s been challenging that way because I’ve missed time.”
Only having this to go off of, one has to wonder if Hargitay enjoys the puzzle that directing brings.
Hargitay recently posted an image on Instagram that’s got her fans abuzz. She’s in a director’s chair, that says “Law & Order Special Victims Unit”, and she captioned the post with a number of hashtags: #CaptainsChair, #DirectorsChair, #LightsCameraAction, #LightsCameraBenson, #AnActorPrepares, #BackAtIt, #BensonInTheHouse, #AllTheWorldsAStage, #LocationLocationLocation.
Clearly, she’s back to direct, hopefully more than just one episode this time. Fans are excited, obviously due to Hargitay’s experience in-character with SVU but also her way of directing. The question is, when will this episode air?
Fans, thrilled with the fact she’s in the director’s seat, have flooded the comments on her post:

Oh captain… My captain?a.tiscareno
Benson should have her own show ??♀️
Some even believe that Benson deserves a spinoff that, of course, Hargitay would have to direct, obviously.

I love you so much! SVU has taught me to speak out and I’m so grateful for the lesson y’all teach in the show. If it weren’t for SVU then I don’t know what I’d be doing right now.
