A day after ex-girlfriend Caroline Flack took her own life, Lewis Burton took to social media to send the deceased host a loving, heartfelt message.

Over the past few months, Flack had been the focus of negative press from the British media and tabloids and was trolled on social media for the assault charge over a fight with Burton.

After her body was found on February 15, news of her suicide dominated the British newspapers and chat shows on Sunday.

Lewis broke his social media silence by posting a heartbreaking message on Instagram. He posted an intimate photo of himself and Flack in happier times.

"My heart is broken we had something so special," he stated at the beginning of the post. "I am so lost for words I am in so much pain I miss you so much I know you felt safe with me you always said I don’t think about anything else when I am with you and I was not allowed to be there this time I kept asking and asking."

He continued. "I will be your voice baby I promise I will ask all the questions you wanted and I will get all the answers nothing will bring you back but I will try make you proud everyday."

Lewis concluded the post by stating, "I love you with all my heart."

His words gave a sense of remorse and heartbreak that seemed opposite on what the public perceived of his and Flack's relationship after the incident that led to Flack being charged with assault.

Up until her death, Flack had denied the charge while waiting to stand trial in March.

During the time, she and Burton were not allowed to have any form of contact with one another due to the nature of the upcoming trial.

The former tennis pro protested the bail restriction placed on Flack. He was not a cooperative witness for Britain's Crown Prosecution Service as he did not want them to go ahead with the trial against his ex-girlfriend.

Before the incident, he had posted a photo of the two to celebrate Flack's birthday.

While Burton poured out his heart on Instagram, Flack's former network ITV decided to pull an episode of Love Island as a way to honor the show's former host.

The network mentioned in a statement that it would not broadcast the episode, but instead resume the following night with a tribute.

"After careful consultation between Caroline's representatives and the Love Island production team and given how close we still are to the news of Caroline's tragic death we have decided not to broadcast [Sunday's] 'Love Island' out of respect for Caroline's family," ITV stated. "Love Island will return [Monday] night which will include a tribute to Caroline who will be forever in our hearts."

Since Flack's death, many have not only come to her defense but of other British celebrities when it comes to the British media and their treatment.

Talent agent Jonathan Shalit told BBC radio that the deceased host had received "more negative press than a terrorist or a pedophile" over the assault trial.

Shalit stated, "These people might be famous, but they're still vulnerable individuals."

Flack's treatment by the press and related suicide has pushed many in the U.K. to question the methods and tactics on the press.

A happy Flack had posted photos on Instagram a day before her death.
